Data
All information given to MistoJam during sign-up and thereafter will not be used by MistoJam for anything unrelated to MistoJam. MistoJam does not sell information to 3rd parties.
Despite this MistoJam cannot be held responsible for anyone who accesses MistoJam (with or without an account) distributing information that users make available on their pages or blogs. It is each user's responsibility to decide what information they want to share and must remember that anything on the internet could potentially be accessed by anyone.
MistoJam will only share user's personal information when legally obligated to do so.
MistoJam reserve the right to temporarily and/or permanently remove and/or revoke access to any account, page, blog or post without warning.
MistoJam cannot guarantee that any data (posts, user data or settings) will be kept for any amount of time, therefore, it is highly recommended that users save/backup and material that they do not want to lose. MistoJam is not cloud storage and should not be treated as such.
When this privacy policy is updated beyond clarification, spelling and grammar, users will be notified so that they are aware of changes. By using the site you are agreeing to our rules and terms whether or not you have an account.
What Users Share
MistoJam believes that everyone is entitled to their own view and should be able to post whatever they wish. However, any person who uses MistoJam for discriminatory or illegal purposes will be dealt with appropriately. This action could be up to and including account deletion. However, it will ultimately be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Users should remember that MistoJam as an organisation is based in the UK and is, therefore, subject to English law even if any of its users are not based in the UK.
If a user has found a blog, page or post containing illegal or discriminatory material they should report the post and/or user as soon as possible.
Users should be aware that MistoJam cannot be held responsible for any harm caused by users following links posted by other users. This also includes downloads. Despite this, if a user is using MistoJam as a platform to post misleading links to cause harm to other users and/or their computers they will be dealt with appropriately. As above, this action could be up to and including account deletion. However, it will ultimately be determined on a case-by-case basis.
If a user has been affected by a harmful link or download they should report the post and/or user as soon as possible.
Most of the MistoJam site is easily available to anyone who chooses to access it. It should, therefore, be noted that currently no level of encryption is used in any part of MistoJam besides personal data (Your name and email) and hashing is used for passwords. Pages should not be accessible to anyone without a MistoJam account. However, users should not take this as any guarantee that any information available on their page is safe from people without MistoJam accounts. Like with any site, anything you do on MistoJam is on the internet. MistoJam will not be held responsible if the content that users have posted in groups or messaged to individuals is found by anyone (including those without MistoJam accounts) regardless of what that person chooses to do with the content. However, should the issue become a matter of law, MistoJam will comply with authorities (such as the police) as morally and legally as necessary. In general, please do not post, message or share any information through MistoJam that you wouldn't share in an email, text, public forum etc... The internet and privacy do not overlap and MistoJam cannot be held responsible for those who do not adhere to this warning. MistoJam plans on implementing systems to help make content unavailable to those who the poster did not intend for it to be accessible by however these systems will take time to implement and will never be completely water-tight.
Due to the current rise in 'Fake News' MistoJam believes it necessary to mention that it does not condone the spreading of false information or opinions being spread as facts. Anyone found to be knowingly spreading content of this kind, including links to other sites, will be dealt with appropriately. As with other MistoJam action, this could be up to and including account deletion. However, it will ultimately be determined on a case-by-case basis. Those found to be unwittingly spreading fake news will generally face lighter action but again this will ultimately be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Cookies
MistoJam only uses cookies for in site purposes like telling chats which user to display and telling the site which account is logged on.
Login cookies are removed when a user logs out and chat cookies are removed when a user closes all their open chat windows.
A max of two cookies will remain after logging out:
The first is a security cookie to identify the browsers you login to. This helps us keep people from logging into your account by warning you via email when your account is logged into from an unrecognised device and allowing you to end a session on a device if you didn't login.
The second of these cookies is only created when you check 'Remember my username' on the login page and will be removed when you uncheck this box whilst logging in, provided you actually login.
As with all websites, you can remove all of MistoJam's cookies from your browser by clearing your cookies. This will log you out of MistoJam, cancel remembering your username if it was selected and set the device to unrecognised meaning you'll get an email warning you of an account login next time you login via that device.
Deleting Your Account
There is currently no way of deleting your MistoJam account through the site. If you wish to delete your MistoJam account please contact a member of staff.
Bullying
MistoJam does not condone bullying of any kind and those who use MistoJam to bully anyone will be dealt with appropriately. This action could be up to and including account deletion, however, it will ultimately be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Age
MistoJam does not allow anyone under the age of 13 to create a MistoJam account. This is both for moral and legal reasons. MistoJam allows its users to post whatever they like and will generally only remove reported or moderated material that does not fall within our guidelines, therefore, content that is allowed may also be unsuitable for those under 13. English law also requires parental permission for those under 13 to create accounts on websites which MistoJam is not set up to gain and is unlikely to be any time soon due to the aforementioned moral issues.
Despite under 13s not being allowed to create accounts, some allowed content on MistoJam may still be deemed unsuitable for those under 16. During the sign up process, those who are over 13 but under 16 are advised to inform their parents that they are getting a MistoJam account so that they can "make [their] parent or guardian aware that [they] are getting a MistoJam account so that [the parent or guardian] can advise [the child] on how to use the site safely if they wish." - From MistoJam sign up process.
MistoJam believes that where a user falls into this category it is up to the parent(s) and/or guardian(s) of a user to enforce the importance of not sharing personal information on social sites and teaching them how to use them safely. It is also up to parents to stop their child from using MistoJam should they believe that the user posted content is unsuitable for them. MistoJam cannot be held responsible for users between 13 and 16 viewing content that their parent(s) and/or guardian(s) deem unsuitable.
Besides confirming the age of a new sign up, MistoJam only uses the birth date of its users for analytic purposes.
Email
MistoJam requires users emails in order to contact them about several things:
  • Requests and reports they have filed
  • Reports filed against them
  • When their password or email is changed via their settings.
  • When an unrecognised device logs into their account.
  • General updates about their account and MistoJam
  • When they have instigated contact first and only about the subjects brought up by the user.
  • When they have been sent a friend request/have had one accepted or they have a new follower if they have set their settings to do this.
MistoJam does not sell emails of its users to third parties and will only share them when legally obligated to do so.
MistoJam Action
As stated above, in many cases action from MistoJam can be up to and including account deletion. However, where other authorities (such as the police) need to be involved MistoJam will comply with those authorities as morally and legally as necessary.
MistoJam encourages users to report anything that they think needs reporting. Good intentions will not be criticised.
Anonymity Through Links
MistoJam gives its users the opportunity to have anonymity between their blog and page. Although MistoJam does advise its users who choose to use anonymous links through their settings, MistoJam cannot be held responsible for any of its users compromising any other user's anonymity in any way. If a MistoJam user feels another user has maliciously violated their anonymity they should report the user as soon as possible.
Multiple Accounts
MistoJam accounts are limited to 2 per email address and 4 per person. (it is recommended that each person only has one however for ease of management and use) Despite this, if anyone is found to be using any number of accounts (whether within the limits or not) for significant commercial gain or malicious intent, MistoJam reserves the right to remove and/or revoke access to any and all accounts involved and held by those involved.
